The Slavs are wary of swimming at night, cause the Drowned starts hunting in the light of the moon. He instills in victim an obsessive desire to plunge into the cold water, and then drags poor creature to the bottom, simultaneously breaking the connection between the soul and the body. The Drowned leaves for himself only the flesh of the unfortunate, letting go of the soul into the abode of the ancestors and thereby not incurring the wrath of the supreme gods. Like any undead, the Drowned is most afraid of sunlight and only hunts at night.

In the darkness of the night, the mighty Drowned roams, looking hideously swollen from the devoured flesh of many victims. His appearance plunges a random traveler into a stupor, and then into flight. And the victim runs towards death, trying to escape in the darkest waters of a lake, the bottom of which is strewn with bones of wanderers like him. The body of poor being is eaten by this disgusting monster who will never feel satiety…
